What to see in Olympic Park in Sochi

Article
04.08.2025

The Olympic Park in Sochi was built for the 2014 Winter Olympics, but it has not lost its relevance after the games. After the Olympics ended, most of the sports and infrastructure facilities were preserved, and the park itself was opened to visitors, turning it into a sports and recreation area. Today, the Olympic Park in Sochi is one of the main attractions of the city and the country.

The Olympic Park in Sochi is a place of sporting history and world records, a center for unusual museums, and one of the best parks in all of Russia. It has a huge number of attractions and sights, as well as a wide range of events that are worth seeing and visiting.

Interesting facts

olympic park

Initially, the creators of the Olympic Park in Sochi feared that after the Olympic Games, the park would lose popularity and be abandoned, but tourists continue to actively visit the Olympic Park to this day.

The site of the Olympic Park was previously home to the Old Believer village of Nizhneimeretinskaya Bay. Due to the construction of the park, the residents of the village had to move, but they were able to save one place from demolition — an ancient cemetery. You won't find it in guidebooks, so you'll have to look for it yourself. The cemetery is located behind a fence between the Fisht Stadium and the singing fountain.

For those who want to learn more about the park, there is useful navigation by signs, but if it is difficult to find your way around, it is better to use the app or take an audio guide. On the website, you can familiarize yourself with the content of the excursions in advance, and the schedule and contacts for group and individual tours are updated. Visiting here means understanding how great ideas are brought to life. And if you want to extend your route, it is most convenient to go from here to Gelendzhik or deeper into Abkhazia, as the park is located on the southern edge of Russia, near major highways.

What to see

Fisht Stadium

The main attraction of the Olympic Park is the Fisht Stadium, a grand venue that hosted athletes and guests from all over the world. The Fisht Stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the XXII Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.

Construction of the stadium began in 2007. The stadium has a capacity of up to 45,000 people, which is an international record. Currently, it hosts large-scale sports tournaments and music concerts, and at other times, it is possible to view the stadium on a guided tour. The Fisht Stadium hosted the final of the 2018 World Cup and has now become part of the country's football heritage.

During the tour, you will learn about the history of its construction, visit the athletes' changing rooms, and see sports equipment. You can admire the panoramic view of the sea and the Caucasus Mountains and peaks from the stands of the Fisht Stadium.

Iceberg Ice Arena

The Iceberg Ice Palace is open to everyone — it often hosts popular concerts, ice shows, matches, and competitions in figure skating and other sports, which you can attend to see the skaters perform. The palace was built in 2012 and is equipped with an ice arena and modern equipment. Iceberg can accommodate up to 12,000 guests. You can also go ice skating at the palace; guests can rent everything they need and take to the ice.

Bolshoi Ice Palace

Opposite the Iceberg Arena is the Bolshoi Palace, another architectural landmark with an unusual design. The building's rounded, streamlined roof resembles the outline of an open seashell. Currently, it hosts exhibitions, hockey tournaments, concerts, forums, music and dance shows. Like the Iceberg, the Bolshoi can accommodate up to 12,000 people at a time.

Shayba Ice Arena

The Shayba Arena is considered the second largest stadium in the Sochi Olympic Park. The facade of the arena resembles the shape of the hockey puck, creating the effect of a snow whirlwind. The arena has a capacity of up to 7,000 spectators and is currently used for training, competitions, and athlete preparation.

Sirius Arena

Sirius Arena (formerly Adler Arena) is an indoor speed skating center with an ice arena, where the 2014 Olympic speed skating competitions were held. Today, the complex in Sochi houses a table tennis academy, and sports competitions are held on the center's grounds.

Singing Fountain “Olympic Flame Bowl”

The Singing Fountain “Olympic Flame Bowl” is a structure that, according to its creators, resembles a firebird. During the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, the Olympic flame burned at the top of the fountain. The diameter of the pool is about 100 meters, and there are more than 260 water cannons installed inside. The height of the fountains ranges from 30 to 70 meters, and the fountain is equipped with multicolored lighting.

Nowadays, singing fountain shows are held here every evening. The schedule is adjusted depending on the length of daylight hours. The musical program changes every year, but Russian classical music is always included in the repertoire.

A short distance from the fountain is the “Wall of Champions,” which lists the names of all the winners of the 2014 Games.
