Sochi Waterfalls on the Map

What is important to know before going to the Sochi waterfalls

Before going to the waterfalls of Sochi, be sure to take into account that most of them are located on the territory of the Sochi National Park, where a strict nature protection regime is in effect. Entrance to some routes is paid, and access to the waterfalls may be temporarily closed due to weather conditions or safety reasons - be sure to check the opening hours in advance.

For a comfortable and safe trip, choose comfortable, non-slip shoes and clothes for the weather - preferably a sporty style with long sleeves and trousers. Take a bottle of water and a light snack with you, because there are rarely cafes or shops on the route, and the walk usually takes at least two hours.

We also recommend preparing a raincoat, sunglasses and cream, a hat, a first aid kit with antiseptics and bandages, and, if desired, a swimsuit and aqua shoes for swimming. Trekking poles and a seat will help make the hike more comfortable, and a flashlight will come in handy early or late. To protect against insects and wild animals, do not forget repellents.

When walking, stick to marked trails or stay close to your guide, avoid dangerous cliffs and be careful, especially in mountainous areas where it’s easy to trip. To find your way around, download an offline map (for example, in the Maps.me app) and take your time – plan your time so that you can return before dark.

33 waterfalls of Sochi

33 waterfalls of Sochi are one of the most famous and picturesque natural complexes on the territory of the resort, located in the Lazarevsky district, near the village of Golovinka and the village of Bolshoy Kichmay. To get here on your own, you need to follow the Sochi-Lazarevskoye highway, then turn onto Bolshoy Kichmay and drive along the Shakhe River for several kilometers on an asphalt road and a dirt road to the Dzhegosh stream. For those who prefer public transport, a bus is available to the village of Bolshoy Kichmay, after which there is a walking route of about 4 kilometers.

Despite the name, there are actually 13 waterfalls here, each of which is unique. Majestic streams of water fall noisily from steep ledges, forming natural pools. The highest waterfall reaches 10 meters in height and makes an unforgettable impression.

A walk around the complex is accompanied by the beauty of oak groves, maples, chestnuts and rare local plants, among which a special place is occupied by the tulip tree with bright yellow flowers reminiscent of tulips. The territory is equipped with convenient pedestrian paths and stairs, which allows you to safely and comfortably examine each cascade and enjoy the atmosphere of the mountain gorge.

Psydakh and Shapsug Waterfalls

The Psydakh and Shapsug waterfalls are real natural pearls of the Lazarevsky district of Sochi, located in the vicinity of the village of Kalezh on the Ashe River. To get to these picturesque cascades, you need to drive to an organized parking lot by the river, and then go on a half-hour walk along a beautiful path passing through thickets of Colchis ivy, hazel and Georgian oak. Along the way, impressive views of the steep mountain slopes open up.

The first one you come across is the Psydakh waterfall - a mysterious natural structure hidden in a small gorge among a dense forest, reminiscent of the fairy-tale world of forest elves. The water here falls from a height of 20 meters, flows down the ledges of a huge rock, forming a small lake below. The name "Psydakh" is translated from the Shapsug language as "beautiful water", and this waterfall really lives up to its name.

Upstream is Shapsug, one of the highest waterfalls in Greater Sochi with a cascading stream falling from a height of 50 meters. The water falls from several rocky rapids and disappears into the depths of a mountain valley surrounded by dense thickets reminiscent of tropical forests. Both waterfalls are equipped with convenient viewing platforms and stairs, which allows you to choose the best angle for a photo and safely enjoy the beauty of these mountain waterfalls.

Nadjigo Waterfalls

The Nadzhigo waterfalls, also known as Kumyshtepe and Gumyshtepe, are located in the picturesque Makopse River basin in the Lazarevsky District of Sochi, not far from the village of Nadzhigo. The start of the route is just a few kilometers from the settlement, which makes it easy to get here by car and walk only about 5 kilometers there and back.

The path starts from the outskirts of the village of Nadzhigo and leads up a dirt road, passing ancient hazelnut gardens. After 2 kilometers, it leads to the confluence of the Kumyshtepe and Gumyshtepe rivers - here begins an exciting journey along a stone canyon cut by the river between high cliffs.

The first waterfall on the way is the Silver, or Tyzhips, 32 meters high, located near the confluence of the rivers. Further, the path, equipped with wooden bridges and railings, leads to two waterfalls on the Gumyshtepe River, 4.5 and 6.5 meters high, and then to the highest one - Zolotoy (Dysheps), which amazes with its 35-meter height.

On the way back, it is worth looking downstream, where in a small stream on the right you can see another impressive waterfall "Raketa". It consists of four steps with a total height of more than 25 meters and is a beautiful natural spectacle.

Svir Gorge

Svirskoe Gorge is a picturesque route that starts in the Lazarevskoye microdistrict on Svirskaya Street, about 6 kilometers there and back. The Svirskaya River, which flows right through the village, flows into the Black Sea, and its gorge attracts attention with high steep walls covered with moss and lichen, as well as several beautiful waterfalls.

You should start the walk at the Sochi National Park ticket office and parking lot, located at the end of Svirskaya Street. From here, the path leads along the stream, crossing from bank to bank over several bridges, until it comes to a large clearing. From there, the route splits: the right-bank path will lead to two waterfalls 7 and 10 meters high. The first waterfall is on the left-bank tributary, access to it lies along a narrow gorge about 100 meters long. The second is hidden in a gorge with steep walls only two meters wide, where almost no sun penetrates. For convenience, there are wooden walking platforms along the wall of the gorge.

Returning to the clearing, you can continue your way upstream along the river. After 700 meters, the trail crosses the river and comes to a fork. Turning right, you will find an ancient trough-shaped dolmen, carved from a single block of sandstone with a separately installed lid. This dolmen was practically hidden underground and was discovered by accident. There are two more small waterfalls nearby.

If you choose the path to the left, you can see two other waterfalls, 5 and 7 meters high. This section is considered the end of the route along the Svir Gorge - from there you should return back along the same path.

Agursky waterfalls

The Agur Waterfalls are one of the most picturesque natural complexes in the Khosta District of Sochi, located in the Agur Gorge on the Agura River between Matsesta and Khosta. You can get here by public transport, taxi or private car. From the city center, go to the Sputnik stop on Kurortny Prospekt next to the hotel of the same name - the entrance to the Sochi National Park begins from there. A walk to the waterfalls will take about 2-3 kilometers. You can also take the train, getting off at the Matsesta station and walking about one and a half kilometers to the entrance to the park.

The route along the Agur Gorge is considered one of the most popular and picturesque in Sochi. The trail runs through a dense forest, past steep cliffs and a fast-flowing mountain river, accompanied by natural pools. One of these pools is the hydrogen sulfide lake "Devil's Kupel". Despite the unpleasant odor, it is considered medicinal and is available for swimming.

The main attraction of the gorge is a cascade of three waterfalls. The lower waterfall is the highest, its flow falls from a height of 30 meters, forming an emerald-colored lake at the foot, where you can also swim. The middle waterfall, 23 meters high, is hidden among dense thickets, and a rather steep path along the rocks leads to it. The upper waterfall, falling in several streams, is the most difficult to access.

From the observation deck next to the upper waterfall, an impressive view of the Eagle Rocks opens up - snow-white cliffs associated with the local legend of Prometheus. According to legend, Prometheus was chained to these rocks for disobeying Zeus and giving fire to people. The young girl Agura, taking pity on the prisoner, brought him water and food, for which the evil overseer Akhin threw her off the cliff, turning her into a rapid river flowing in the gorge itself.

Matsesta waterfalls

The Matsesta Waterfalls are a natural complex of 18 picturesque cascades located in the Matsesta River valley. Each of the waterfalls has its own original name: there are "Gnomes", "Uncle Styopa", "Horse Tail", "Oyster Mushroom" and "Uncle Styopa's Mustache". In hot weather, they become a great place for a refreshing swim and outdoor recreation. Near the waterfalls are tea plantations - another picturesque location for walks and photo sessions.

The general route that allows you to see all 18 waterfalls is about 15 kilometers - quite a long distance, which is why there are not many tourists in this area. The trail starts from the village of Semenovka, to which regular buses go from Sochi. There are two options for accessing the natural beauty: you can go through the Volnitsy ethnocomplex for a symbolic fee of 100 rubles or walk around it along a forest path in 30-40 minutes.

Mamedova gap

Mamedova Shchel is a picturesque gorge located in the Lazarevsky district of Sochi between the Ashe and Psezuapse rivers, along the Kuapse River. The start of the route is in the village of Mamedova Shchel, where you can turn off the Novorossiysk-Sochi highway. From the village, the road across the bridge leads to a dirt path, which after 200 meters leads to a large trough-shaped dolmen - the first attraction of the route.

Moving up the path along the river, after 500 meters you will come to the "Stone Dam" - a natural barrier of chaotically stacked yellow-gray sandstone boulders. Nearby, on the left tributary of the Kuapse, is the first waterfall "Mamed's Whiskers". Even higher, on the right bank of the river, is Orekhovaya Polyana - the remains of ancient Circassian gardens with nuts and pears, where cafes and awnings are equipped.

From Orekhovaya Polyana, the trail is divided into two routes: the main one goes around the canyon, and down the riverbed there is a path to a picturesque canyon with steep limestone walls, overhanging cornices and a semi-dark stone tunnel formed by natural growths of lime carbonate.

The trail then leads to the "White Hall" - an expansion of the canyon at the bend of the river and the last waterfall "Mamed's Beard" with a height of 15 meters. After this, it becomes difficult to overcome the gorge along the river due to the high walls and water level, so it is recommended to go up the trail and return to Orekhovaya Polyana.

The name Kuapse, which means "boar river" in the Shapsug language, is associated with a local legend. According to legend, the elder Mamed lured the Turkish conquerors into the gorge, from where they could not get out and died, and Mamed himself died at their hands. However, a more plausible version says that the gorge received its name from the lonely miller Mamed, who lived here in the late 19th - early 20th centuries.

Motorcycle excursions in Sochi

A motorcycle ride around Sochi is an unforgettable adventure on powerful motorcycles. You will travel through the picturesque places of the city and its surroundings.

Dzykhrinsky waterfall

Dzykhrinsky Waterfall is an impressive 20-meter cascade located just half an hour's drive from Adler. The best time to visit is May, when the waterfall is at its fullest thanks to melting snow and spring rains. During dry periods, the flow can significantly decrease or disappear altogether. The state of the Mzymta River can easily determine whether there is water: if the river has dried up, then there will be no waterfall. It is worth considering that immediately after rain or melting snow, the path can be slippery and dangerous, so do not rush to see it.

You can get to Dzykhrinsky Waterfall either by car or by bus #105C from Sochi. After getting off at the "Forelevoe Khozyaistvo" stop, you will have to walk about a kilometer along a trampled path, passing a picturesque suspension bridge. The entire journey takes about two hours one way - the route includes several steep climbs and descents, but along the way there are breathtaking views of the "ship" rocks, the Akhshtyr Canyon and the popular mountain amusement park Sky Park.

Orekhovsky waterfall

Orekhovsky Waterfall is one of the most beautiful and popular natural sites in the Khostinsky District, located 14 kilometers from the center of Sochi in the village of Nizhnyaya Orekhovka on the Bezumenka River. You can get here either by car or by minibus — public transport will take you to the village, from where you have to walk about two kilometers.

A convenient path with stairs and railings leads to the waterfall, but be prepared for a fairly steep descent. The water falls rapidly from a height of 28 meters, forming a lake and flowing into the river. Orekhovsky Waterfall is so impressive in its beauty that it has become one of the symbols of the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi — its image can be seen on collectible postage stamps issued for the Olympics.

During the walk you will be able to admire the centuries-old oaks and chestnuts, the rare Pontic rhododendron listed in the Red Book, as well as the thickets of walnut, after which both the waterfall and the village are named. In the summer you can refresh yourself with a swim, and in the winter enjoy the fairy-tale atmosphere - thanks to the supply of underground waters, the waterfall does not freeze even in the cold season.

Zmeykovskie waterfalls

Zmeykovskiye Waterfalls are a cascade complex located in the Khostinsky District of Sochi, not far from the village of Izmailovka. You can get here by car or public transport, and then go to the territory of the national park and follow the signs to the waterfalls.

The waterfalls are located on Mount Zmeyka, along which the river of the same name flows - it is also called Dikarka, a tributary of the Matsesta River. Powerful and noisy streams of water descend along winding slopes and rapids, forming seven cascade waterfalls of varying heights - from 1.5 to 30 meters. Among them, there are both rapid straight streams falling from a height, and gentle streams flowing down small ledges, reminiscent of a refreshing tropical shower.

The waterfalls create picturesque lakes in the recesses of the rocks, where you can make a stop and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere to the sounds of falling water and the rustling of leaves. The most exciting thing is to climb to the source of the Zmeyka River, from where a magnificent panoramic view of the city of Sochi opens up - an ideal place for photos and memorable moments.

Waterfall "Dragon's Mouth" (Deep Yar)

The Dragon's Mouth Waterfall, also known as Deep Yar, is located in the Adler district, in the village of Monastyr. You can get here on your own by public transport - just get off at the Monastyr stop, next to which there is an observation deck with a breathtaking view of the Akhtsu gorge. From the stop, follow the signs to the Mzymta River and its tributary Deep Yar.

The main feature of this waterfall is a powerful stream of water falling from a height of about 40 meters from the canyon wall. Behind it is a cave resembling a dragon's mouth, which is where the name of the waterfall comes from. Inside the cave is a second, more modest, 18-meter cascade. Together, both waterfalls form a single picturesque stream that feeds the Deep Yar River and impresses with its power and mystery.

Azhek waterfalls

Verkhniy Azhek is one of the most picturesque and at the same time hard-to-reach waterfalls in Sochi, hidden in the depths of a dense forest inside a rocky canyon. This corner of nature is famous for its wealth of endangered plants - boxwood, yew, forest grapes and Pitsunda pine grow here, which makes the route especially interesting for botany lovers.

The ecological trail "Azhek" starts in the village of Nizhnyaya Orekhovka and takes about five hours one way. Along the way, tourists will encounter moderate climbs and descents, so it is better to choose dry weather for the hike. Despite the presence of signs, it is recommended to go with an experienced guide to avoid mistakes on the route.

For those who are not ready for a long walk, a great alternative would be a visit to the Lower Azhek waterfall - it is only 3 kilometers from the start of the trail. This waterfall also pleases with its beauty and leaves a pleasant impression. In good weather, people often have picnics at Verkhniy Azhek and even stop with tents, enjoying the silence and grandeur of nature.

Ivanovsky waterfall

Ivanovsky Waterfall is a great place for those who want to enjoy peace and privacy away from the tourist crowds. It is located in the picturesque gorge of the Psakho River and although its height is only about 10 meters, the natural pool at the foot of the waterfall with crystal clear water invites you to a refreshing swim - if you are not afraid of the coolness.

If you are traveling by car, you should drive to the village of Monastyr, then drive another 14 kilometers along a dirt road to the barrier, from where you will have to walk about 2.7 kilometers. You can get to the Monastery on your own by bus #105 from the Adler train station - the road will take about 40 minutes, but then you will need to find a ride to the start of the route. On the way to the waterfall, you will find cozy gazebos for relaxation, spring water and picturesque forest paths that will make the walk especially pleasant.

Crystal Waterfall

The Khrustalny Waterfall is one of the most mysterious and picturesque waterfalls in the Adler region, located near the Adler-Krasnaya Polyana highway, near the village of Chvizhepse. You can get here by car or bus, and from the bus stop you will have to walk about two kilometers along a difficult route, which includes several crossings of the Mzymta River and hidden paths in the dense forest. Therefore, it is recommended to go on the road with a local guide to make the trip as safe and comfortable as possible.

Along the way, you will be accompanied by majestic ancient ferns, mighty trees covered with moss, and a fabulous forest atmosphere. The final reward will be the impressive 30-meter Khrustalny Waterfall - a powerful stream of water that breaks down from a cliff almost completely covered with trees. For those who want to continue the excursion, there is another waterfall nearby - Maiden's Tears, which you can reach on foot and enjoy its beauty.

Sparkling Waterfall

The Sparkling Waterfall got its original name thanks to a unique phenomenon - on sunny days, a rainbow appears at its foot, and the streams of water sparkle and shimmer in the light, like champagne bubbles. When swimming to the waterfall, you can plunge into a natural font or stand under a powerful stream of water, where at full pressure a bubbling effect is formed, reminiscent of a jacuzzi.

The most convenient way to get to the Sparkling Waterfall is on your own from the village of Lazarevskoye: you need to take a bus to the stop "Aul Tkhagapsh", and from there walk about 3 kilometers along a picturesque path. Not far away, just a kilometer away, there is another interesting attraction - Tiger Cave, which serves as a source of water for the Hekuai River. For lovers of active recreation, there is an opportunity to visit both sites with an excursion on ATVs - this will add noisy fun and drive to your trip.

Keiva Waterfall

The Keiva Waterfall is one of the most picturesque and popular waterfalls in the Adler region, located in the village of Krasnaya Polyana. Getting here is quite simple: take the train to the Esto-Sadok station, and then go on a short hike along the river.

The waterfall was named after the Estonian instructor Elmar Keiva, who first discovered the cascade in 1967 and organized excursions for resort guests. Today, you can go to the waterfall both independently and with a guide. The path to it is quite steep and passes through a dense Colchis forest, but there are signs along the route, which makes orientation much easier.

The waterfall is located at an altitude of more than a kilometer above sea level, and the ascent to it is about two kilometers. Despite the difficulties of the route, travelers can expect a colorful rest stop at a full-flowing waterfall, which noisily falls in several streams along the ledges of the mountain slope.

A distinctive feature of Keiva is its year-round accessibility - the waterfall does not dry up in the summer and does not freeze in the winter. Not far from it, at an altitude of about 1400 meters, there is an observation deck with a stunning view of the Aibga ridge - an ideal place for photography and relaxation.

Svanidze Waterfalls

Svanidze Waterfalls are small but very picturesque cascades falling from a height of 2-3 meters near a tributary of the Agva River. This is a secluded and little-known place for tourists, where you can enjoy the silence and beauty of wild nature. A walk here will give you not only peace, but also excellent opportunities for photography in picturesque corners.

Waterfall Park "Mendelikha"

The Mendelikha Waterfall Park is an amazing natural complex located on the territory of the Rosa Khutor ski resort in the Adler district of Sochi. You can get here by car or by train - you need to get off at the station of the same name, and then take the cable car to an altitude of about 1,470 meters above sea level.

The name of the park comes from the Mendelikha River, along which there are seven cascading waterfalls. The river received its name in honor of Boris Mendel, a local paramedic and the headman of the village of Boris, who lived here in the 19th - early 20th centuries. According to legend, during the Civil War, he witnessed a mounted detachment transporting jewelry across the river, for which he was shot to keep the secret.

This tragic story is reflected in the names of the waterfalls: for example, the Chervonny Cascade got its name from the royal chervonets, which, according to legend, were scattered here by accident, and the Aya waterfall is named after Mendel's wife, who, according to legend, died of grief a year after her husband's death. All the waterfalls are located in a deep mountain valley, along the bottom of which the Mendelikha River flows. The park is equipped with stairs and paths that form three independent routes, each of which takes about an hour. The most impressive route is the "Big Ring", which ends at the Golden Waterfall, 77 meters high - the highest in Sochi, a real natural wonder.

Bzogu Waterfall

Bzogu Waterfall is a picturesque 30-meter two-cascade waterfall in Sochi, which remains little known among tourists. This gives a unique opportunity to enjoy the beauty and silence of nature without the hustle and bustle and crowds even at the peak of the season. Due to its seclusion, Bzogu is a real corner of peace for those who value an atmosphere of privacy and harmony with the surrounding world.

Dagomys troughs

Dagomys troughs are not just waterfalls, but a whole natural complex on a mountain river, consisting of many natural reservoirs. Thanks to numerous partitions, ledges and rapids, the water flows smoothly from one pool to another, creating picturesque waterfalls and small lakes. This place received the romantic name "Lake of Love": according to local beliefs, if lovers take a dip here together, their happiness will last a lifetime, and those who are still single will soon find their soul mate after swimming.

The special charm of Dagomys troughs is the natural pools, where you can refresh yourself and enjoy the coolness on hot summer days. The ideal time for swimming is the second half of summer, when it is really hot and you especially want to cool off. During this season, it is crowded here, because it is very easy to get to the complex.

From the village of Dagomys you can get to "Koryt" by bus #146 or 154, and from the stop it's just a couple of minutes' walk to the reservoirs. For a comfortable stay, they offer rental of gazebos and a traditional Russian wood-fired sauna - after the steam room, you can plunge into a cool mountain river and feel truly refreshed.

Nameless Waterfall

Bezymyanny Waterfall is the highest waterfall in the Caucasus and Sochi, reaching an impressive height of 75 meters. It consists of three cascades and is located just 4 kilometers north of the village of Aibga, on the border of Russia and Abkhazia.

This place attracts nature lovers with its fantastic landscapes: a rapidly flowing seething river, massive stone boulders and dense green thickets of Colchis ivy. Bezymyanny Waterfall is a real natural wonder that is worth visiting for those who are looking for impressive views and solitude in the wild.

Polikarya Waterfall

Polikarya Waterfall is an impressive 72-meter giant located in the Adler district on the territory of the Rosa Khutor mountain resort. You can get to it by taking a cable car to a height of about 1,370 meters, and then walking about a kilometer along a picturesque path through a relict forest.

The name of the waterfall is translated from Greek as "hero", and it really makes a powerful impression with its rapid stream, which flows down a majestic cliff covered with bushes and grasses. A special feature of Polikarya is the bifurcation of the water flow approximately halfway along the way, which is why the waterfall is sometimes called "pants".

For lovers of active recreation, the route can be continued by hiking from Polikarya to the neighboring Medvezhyi Waterfall, discovering new beauties of the mountain nature of Greater Sochi.

Bear Falls

Bear Waterfall is a beautiful and calm cascade located at an altitude of 1970 meters above sea level against the backdrop of the majestic Black Mountain. Unlike neighboring Polikar, it does not fall from a great height, but flows smoothly along rocky ledges. This place looks especially impressive in June, when bright rhododendrons bloom around, turning the surroundings into a real flower fairy tale.

You can get to Bear Waterfall by taking the cable cars to the lower station "Aibga". From there, a pleasant and easy walk begins, about half an hour long. Along the way, you will come across the chapel of Saints Vera, Nadezhda, Lyubov and their mother Sophia, walk through picturesque subalpine meadows and enjoy stunning mountain panoramas.

It is important to remember that the route is open from June to October, and many tourists mistakenly take a small stream near the church for a waterfall. To see the real Bear Falls, you need to go a little further down the trail, where the main attraction is located.

Kutarki Waterfalls

The Kutarki waterfalls, also known as the Plastunsky cascades, are located in the area of the gardening associations SNT. Among them, the Tsarsky waterfall stands out - a picturesque cascade divided by several rapids, which is considered one of the most beautiful and impressive water bodies in the vicinity of the river.

Boxwood Falls

For those visiting these places for the first time, it is recommended to go with an experienced guide to avoid difficulties and fully enjoy the beauty of the route.

Waterfall Miracle Beauty

At the mouth of the Chudo-Krasotka River, which flows through the Lazarevsky District of Sochi, there are several picturesque cascades, among which the most famous bears the same name - Chudo-Krasotka Waterfall. This two-stage, foamy waterfall about 12 meters high amazes with its beauty and is surrounded by a relict mossy forest. The water falls from steep cliffs into a natural bowl with the purest water, where on hot days tourists enjoy swimming, enjoying the refreshing coolness and picturesque nature.

Aquarius Waterfall

Vodolay Waterfall is a 10-meter waterfall located in a picturesque gorge near the village of Tatyanovka. The tourist trail passes by several beautiful cascades, but Vodolay is the largest and most impressive of them, attracting the attention of nature lovers and quiet walkers.

Waterfall of Love

Love Waterfall is an impressive 35-meter cascade, where a rapid stream of water falls noisily into a crystal-clear lake. This corner of nature is surrounded by the aroma of walnut trees growing in the nearby grove. Due to the lack of equipped trails, the waterfall is best reached by SUV, which adds a touch of adventure and solitude to the trip.

The nearest settlement to the waterfall is the village of Solokhaul in Sochi, from where a convenient route to this picturesque place begins.

Cordon and Pslukh waterfall

The Kordon Pslukh farmstead is a protected and secluded place, ideal for those who value peace and unity with nature. The main natural attraction here is a waterfall, which, according to scientists, was formed as a result of tectonic activity.
